Film Overview

What if someone else could see your dreams? In the futuristic world of Satoshi Kon's latest animated sci-fi thriller PAPRIKA, a new psychotherapy device called the “DC Mini” has been developed for use as a “dream detective.” Twenty-nine-year-old beauty Dr. Atsuko Chiba works with Dr. Tokita, the nerdy genius who created the device. Atsuko's alter-ego is Paprika, an 18-year-old who enters into patients' dreams and eases their anxieties. While the lab awaits government approval for this innovative therapy, one of the four prototypes is stolen, triggering chaos in the research facility. The DC Mini has fatal capabilities if used by the wrong person: one can completely obliterate a dreamer's personality with the device. When several of Atsuko's coworkers become consumed by their dreams, this young scientist realizes her worst fears have come true-the DC Mini has entered evil hands. Now, it's up to Atsuko and Paprika together to retrieve the device and save the world, but time is running out. (In Japanese with English subtitles) – E.J.B.
