Passion Fish

Television soap star May-Alice Culhane (Mary McDonnell) is on her way to get her legs waxed when a tragic car accident leaves her paralyzed from the waist down. Bound to a wheelchair, she is forced to relocate from New York City to the home of her deceased parents in the Louisiana bayou. But this “bitch on wheels” can't seem to keep a nurse. That is, until she hires Chantelle (Alfre Woodard), a fellow out-of-towner who desperately needs a job. As these two strong-willed women duke it out in the steamy southern sun, a colorful cast of friends, former lovers, and family visit the resentful actress. Despite determined resistance, May-Alice slowly learns she needs more than mere physical aid in John Sayles' PASSION FISH.
