Hit the green in this inspirational biopic about civil rights heroine Ann Gregory (Andia Winslow, “A League of Their Own”), the first Black woman to play in a United States Golf Association tournament, and her head-to-head match with white Southern golfer Babs Whatling (singer/songwriter Julie Rae). —M.G.

PLAYING THROUGH tells the incredible true story of African-American golfer Ann Gregory and her journey to become the first Black woman to compete in a United States Golf Association tournament. Born in Mississippi, and with the early tragedy of her parents’ death, Gregory fought against systemic oppression and racism in the American South to pursue her passion for the sport of golf. Told opposite the rise of white fellow female golfer Babs Whatling, the film takes a heartwarming and celebratory look at Gregory’s triumph over these obstacles, becoming an inspiration to generations of Black women and athletes and instilling a legacy that led her to achieve over 300 championship prizes. —C.F.
