This lively doc goes back in time to mid-century Liverpool, where young drummer Colin Hanton helped pioneer the post-war “skiffle music” craze and joined a little band called The Quarrymen in the 1950s; that band would later go on to become The Beatles and change the face of rock ‘n’ roll forever. —M.G.

Growing up in post-WWII Liverpool, Colin Hanton was one of the few kids in his community with a drum kit. As his generation became infatuated with emerging pop music, this gave him and his friends a front row seat to the birth of The Beatles, which evolved from some of the founding members of The Quarrymen. Featuring interviews with Hanton, a host of The Beatles’ earliest collaborators, and the legendary Paul McCartney, PRE FAB! brings light to the band’s creation, along with the conditions and influences that resulted in the sound that changed the future of rock ‘n’ roll. The film not only celebrates The Beatles’ first days, but also a generation that helped shape an entire music genre. —C.F.
