Ratboy

Nikki Anderson (Sondra Locke) is an out-of-work journalist whou isn't going to wait around for a job with the Times or the Post to make a name for herself. She's looking for something or someone to exploit, and finds the perfect opportunity in the form of a small, rat-like semi-human quasi-alien living in a garbage heap. Within hours of taking charge of him, they meet with a heavyweight Hollywood producer, make a stop at an LA power party, appear on the Merv Griffin Show, and get banner headlines after a crazed press conference from which the Ratboy, now calling himself Eugene, tries to escape to freedom. Everyone is so busy trying to make a buck from this rodent/man, nobody bothers to find out what he is, or where he came from.
