Film Overview

In front of a mailbox, best friends Phillip and Erik, each holding a sealed envelop containing his first manuscript, contemplate their future-getting published will change everything. Of course, their books will be accepted immediately, garnering meager sales but a devoted cult following. Subsequent mishaps in love will cause Phillip to abandon writing completely. He will leave Oslo without telling anyone, and only after seeing cave paintings in Vèzère Valley, will he start writing again. Without Phillip, Erik will be unable to find his inspiration. Upon the suggestion of offbeat author Sten Egil Dahl, Erik will travel to Europe, where he will fall in love. After his lover's untimely death, Erik will be disgusted by his sudden burst of creativity. Perhaps at a café, perhaps on the street, perhaps at the airport, the best friends meet again, only to realize they are writing the same book destined to change the world. But, wait a minute-they haven't even dropped their original manuscripts into the mailbox yet. Recalling films of the French New Wave, Joachim Trier employs an unconventional narrative structure and sharp editing in REPRISE, his debut film about the fine lines between madness and creativity, expectations and reality.
