About This Film
Film Overview
With the current political climate forcing the dialogue on public health towards the subject of who’s going to pay for it, there is great interest in the issue of preventative healthcare and how we can reduce the number of diseases affecting Americans. RESILIENCE addresses the remarkable Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, which was the first study to connect childhood trauma to many of today’s largest health risks. These include alcohol and drug abuse, depression, STD transmission, smoking, and attempted suicide. Interviews are held with the very doctors behind the landmark ACE Study, educators, and the physicians and social workers who are on the front lines trying to help heal a nation while working to understand how to prevent even more damage. The very core of the film and the movement is, “The child may not remember, but the body remembers,” meaning that many of the traumas experienced in childhood have a direct influence on how the adult behaves in similar situations, whether they realize it or not. RESILIENCE is an important documentary that takes the brave steps towards helping those who greatly need it . –T.W.
