Film Overview

Every great civilization has its own literary masterpiece, except for the Roma (Gypsies) of Europe. Roman is on a mission to change that by writing a story that transcends time and place and tells the tale of the great Roma civilization. The problem is that Roman has other things that take precedence, such as marrying his son, Jura, off to the daughter of his best friend. Roman begs Jura to come with him on a trip from northern Bohemia to Slovakia to visit the woman he is destined to marry. At first Jura denies his father, but eventually caves in to his pressure. The two, along with goofy family friend, Stano, head off in a smoking, moaning truck only to experience breakdowns and run-ins with the police. Along the way, visions coming directly from Roman's mind convey his thoughts on the “Great Roma Novel,” clearly mirroring the comical occurrences happening to the trio of travelers. ROMING gives a new definition to the Roma, a people facing a threat of being “westernized” by EU minded Eastern European governments, a people with only orally passed-on traditions, trying to recreate their view of themselves.
