In a little Slovenian village not far from the Austrian border, not much happens. The men get together to drink too much hooch and play cards at the nearby garage. The local hustler Lepec and his gorgeous wife Bronja keep smashing up their expensive German sedans and bringing them to Gajas, the garage owner, for repair. Into this sleepy existence comes handsome young Djuro, recently laid off as a mechanic in the city of Maribor, to apprentice with Gajas, who portrays himself as an aging Lothario. Back in the good old days of Tito, he was lauded for single-handedly saving entire factories and always bedding lots of girls. Gajas's new passion is the Croatian pop star Severina, who becomes his all-consuming desire. Meanwhile, Djuro and Bronja begin a dangerous and steamy relationship that is sure to end badly, considering Lepec's murderous tendencies. When one of the card-playing buddies goes off the deep end, it seems the simmering desires of the sleepy village all come bubbling to the surface. ROOSTER'S BREAKFAST features not only kitschy Slovenian pop music and a musical concert by the famous Severina, but also a finely nuanced performance by Primoz Bezjak as Djuro.
