RUBY AND RATA

In this charming generational comedy, people are definitey not as they appear. Ruby, an elderly landlady, decides to rent her downstairs apartment to a suitable young businesswoman. Ruby is confident that this helpful and friendly tenant will keep an eye on her, and give her a hand when needed. But Rata, the tenant, is actually a mistress of disguise: a second-rate rock singer, practiced in welfare fraud, and mother of a rotten eight year-old named Willie. She's glad to have the apartment, along with an old lady upstairs to dump her son with. Then again, Ruby isn't the kindly baby-sitter Rata anticipated. Her son wants nothing to do with the “old witch” upstairs. From the ensuing clash of personalities and generations emerges a delightful story of two determined women who have more in common than they realize.
