Film Overview

Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, the adorable teens from 2001's “Y Tu Mamá También,” are together again as brothers in RUDO Y CURSI, a raunchy comedy about the pitfalls of fame. Beto and Tato are workers on a rustic Mexican banana ranch with nothing to sustain them but their dreams. Both soccer players for the local team, Beto – nicknamed Rudo for his temper on the field – would like to go pro, while tone-deaf Tato dreams of fame as a singer. Their goal in life is to build their loose mama a big house. One day a sports agent tools up their dusty road in a sports car, telling them he can take one of them to the city and make him a soccer star. Much to Rudo's dismay, he chooses Tato – called Cursi for his fancy footwork. Never one to be outdone by his brother, Rudo gets a position on a rival team. As the brothers make the leap to the big time, many distractions are thrown their way, from floozies and gambling to drugs and gangsters. RUDO Y CURSI is an engaging romp that puts the huge comedic talents of the actors on display. (In Spanish with English subtitles) – B.B.
