RUN FOR MONEY

It is impossible to watch RUN FOR MONEY without thinking of a recent incident in downtown Cleveland that made national headlines, in which $.65 million dropped out of an armored truck into the street, for anyone to snatch up. What would you have done? Much the same dubious good fortune befalls Selim, a clothier and family man renowned for his honesty. By purest chance he steps into a taxi and finds on the floor a satchel left behind in haste by the previous fare. It holds about $460,000 in precious American dollars, newly embezzled from a bank. Instant riches, no strings attached. Well, almost no strings. As he strives to keep the satchel away from prying eyes, out of sight of his business associates, a flirty apartment neighbor, even his own wife, Selim begins to notice with unease how big a part money and commerce – the getting of cash, the investing of cash, the grabbing of cash – play in the lives of those around him. Avarice, nerves, duplicity, and guilt gnaw away at the psyche of the “lucky” hero, until Selim becomes unrecognizable even to himself, his simple plan coming apart at the purse strings.
