About This Film
Film Overview
In a thrilling yet darkly comedic twist on the old spy vs. spy genre, SCHNEIDER VS. BAX portrays two hitmen going face-to-face in a life or death game of chess, where neither man is sure which side they’re on. Schneider is the family man—beautiful wife and two adorable young daughters about to celebrate his birthday—when he gets a call to go after Bax (played by director Alex van Warmerdam). “He’s a child killer” is all Schneider knows as he reluctantly goes after his next contract. But shacked up in his own quagmire is Bax, waiting for his own daughter to pay the old man a visit. Unlike the seemingly put-together Schneider, Bax is struggling on the downside of his life: abusing drugs, abusing alcohol, and clearly through with the responsibilities normally befitting a man of his age. A comedy of errors, SCHNEIDER VS. BAX is fast-paced good fun, with a cornucopia of secondary characters who each add color to this mid-day standoff in the bog. (In Dutch with subtitles) –T.W.
