About This Film
Film Overview
Imagine “E.T.” or “Star Wars” without the sweeping sounds of John Williams, “Back To The Future” without the moving brass of Alan Silvestri, or “Chariots of Fire” without the epic synthesizers of Vangelis. Sure, these films could’ve been decent without the music, but with it they were elevated to a whole new level of awesome. The combination of iconic images and sound has become magically intertwined; one without the other feels empty. This impactful marriage is the focus of SCORE: A FILM MUSIC DOCUMENTARY, which celebrates the composers whose famous works have been forever seared into our brains. Tracing the roots of mixed media, the movie digs back to the days when theaters had in-house organists and pianists to accompany silent films. It also breaks down the anatomy of some of cinema’s most memorable soundtracks, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the process. Featuring interviews with such artists and film buffs as Leonard Maltin, Quincy Jones, Moby, Danny Elfman, and Ohio’s own Trent Reznor and Mark Mothersbaugh, this comprehensive documentary will thrill film-buffs and music aficionados alike. —E.F.
