About This Film
Film Overview
Curt and Andy are brothers close in age. Awkward Curt has grown up in the shadow of popular, athletic Andy. When Curt gets the lead role in the high school musical, he can't believe it—until he finds out Andy has intervened on his behalf. Curt quits the play but acts as the piano accompanist, where he's smitten with leading lady Lisa. Andy takes over the male lead and locks Lisa in an on-stage kiss that goes on much too long. Fueled with rage that Andy has taken his girl on top of everything else, Curt starts hanging around with a bunch of punks. As he plots revenge against his brother, he's glad he finally has friends who back him up. Soon the boys' stupid pranks spiral out of control, resulting in an unforeseen disaster. The off-beat script of SCRAPBOOK, Kurt Kuenne's first feature, elevates this tale of brotherly rivalry gone wrong. The film also boasts unconventional camerawork and a lush soundtrack—composed by the then 25-year-old director. –B.B.
