About This Film
Film Overview
Appropiating the brooding mystery of film noir, and ironic nihilism of the French New Wave, SECOND COUSIN, ONCE REMOVED bands a klieg light on the “real” Los Angeles-a viscerally excessive, media-blitzed nightmare of junk, fear, nonsense and blood. Framed in the plot of a 40-year-old movie, our man Clyde Belmondo adopts a Bogartian attitude and a snubnosed .38 to navigate a path to justice, but quickly finds himself sucked into a quagmire, where illusion masquerades as reality and trust disappears like the Cuervo from a shot glass. Driven throughout by the irrevently humorous, garage-sale rock of Thelonious Monster, this gurnge who-done-it is film noir with a twist…and an olive, and a wedge of lime, all splashing about wildly in the shade of a miniature paper parasol.
