About This Film
Film Overview
SHADEY is one of the best and funniest films to come from Great Britain in the last few years. The title character is a bankrupt garage owner who has the unique ability to project the thoughts of anyone he chooses onto 8mm film. Well aware of this gift's potential, he decides to market it to a powerful banker in order to finance his cherished dream: a sex-change operation. The banker and his odd family (including a xenophobic, coal-eating wife played brilliantly by Katherine Helmond) are all touched by Shadey in some way, until Shadey is traded to the Defense Department, a situation he'll not tolerate. From here things escalate from the surreal to the ridiculous. Said “Variety,” “It's rich store of surprises, enigmas and mysteries defies an audience to be bored.”
