About This Film
Film Overview
“All that summer I knew something was going to happen….So I waited, watching for signals.” On a prision-like Iowa work farm for homeless children in 1956, John “Spacey” Callahan is an outcast among outcasts. Silent, smart and filled with reverie about an estranged mother and alcoholic father, 16-year-old John isn't even considered a worthwhile target by the resident bullies or the spiteful adults that run the place. Then he meets Gary Finch, an orphaned newcomer who's absolutely fearless, but not fast enough with his fists to afford a defiant attitude much longer. Is he the sign John has been awaiting? The two become good friends, sharing philosophies and dreams of the outside world and how they can get there. But in the process the pair becomes conspicuous. And predatory eyes are watching. Playwright John O'Keefe adapted his one-man stage show (based on fact) for this hypnotic drama about young men striving the survive the odds. Shot in Toledo-Toledo, Iowa, that is-with a soundtrack that will follow you out of the theatre-Charles Cassady. Recommended for children ages 10 and up.
