About This Film
Film Overview
SHOW ME LOVE has raised eyebrows internationally for its original Swedish title. But no debut feature by any other name would smell as bittersweet as Lukas Moodysson's coming-of-age tale of teenagers and whispers of closeted lesbianism in a dull Scandinavian town called ?m?l, where the main recreation is watching game shows on TV and wishing one dwelt elsewhere. Agnes, a friendless newcomer suffering through the worst 16th birthday party since Molly Ringwald, maintains an unrequited, secret crush on a classmate ? a bad-girl blonde named Elin, who's fearful she'll end up stuck in ?m?l forever like her single mom. Elin, remarkably, is one of the few visitors that night; she crashes Agnes' party because the bourgeois parents have provided free liquor and, well, there?s nothing much else going on. In a high-school society of frosty peer groups and casual cruelty (intentional or not), where kids trade boyfriends and girlfriends and broken hearts like Pokemon cards, what transpires between Agnes and Elin will fuel gossip in the locker rooms and rave parties of ?m?l for quite some time afterwards. (In Swedish with English subtitles.)
