When her boyfriend finally achieves fame as an artist, jealous Signe (Kristine Kujath Thorp, “Ninjababy”) concocts a twisted plan, one both mentally and physically destructive, to turn the Oslo art scene upside down in this pitch-black comedy about the horrible lengths we’ll go for glory. —M.G.

This biting and bawdy satire follows Signe, a young woman in Oslo frustrated when a gag catapults her boyfriend to unearned notoriety in the art scene. Like the rest of us, Signe wants to be special, too. Though she makes petty ploys to win back the attention being heaped on her boyfriend, Signe is drawn to something more drastic: experimentation with a black market drug suspected of disfiguring people. When this compulsive bid for adoration doesn’t turn out as she expects, and the long-term effects of the drug bring unexpected consequences, Signe escapes into self-aggrandizing daydreams more fabulous than her boring reality. SICK OF MYSELF paints a darkly funny portrait of modern narcissism, while also taking aim at modern media and artistic bankruptcy. —C.F.
