Film Overview

Richard Eyre's prestigious theatrical career included directing British provincial and national theater as well as BBC productions. He also co-founded the Greenpoint Film Production Co., whose first venture was Eyre's caustic “Ploughman's Lunch.” SINGLETON'S PLUCK is his third film, following the comic “Loose Connections.” Singleton (Ian Holm) is a goose rancher who must herd his gaggle of 500 geese to market in London, due to his plucking team's obstinate refusal to pluck the birds. Along the way, like a cattle-driving rancher up against rustlers and Indians in our Westerns, Singleton must escape ambush by bands of journalists and cops, impeded by an unhelpful wife and daughter. Wry humor, taut direction, smashing acting!
