About This Film
Film Overview
If Arturo Toscanini were alive today, he would have to take back his statement that “Conductors have to be geniuses, and women are not creative geniuses” — especially after seeing this film. Thirty years after the maestro's death, many orchestras are still so conservative that they share his chauvinistic attitude. The six gifted women featured in the gripping film have had to overcome the resistance of such institutions. They share a passionate obsession for music and their work. All are courageous pioneers meeting the challange of breaking down male antagonism within an immensely competitive profession. Vibrant camerawork captures the very different styles of these artists at work, drawing us into the process of conducting and providing a glorious musical experience.
