About This Film
Film Overview
There’s more than one way to love. This is the matter facing contemporary dancer Elena, who has hit it off big-time with Dovydas, an interpreter for the Deaf. But as their relationship blooms, he reveals he is asexual, leaving the couple to explore new paths of intimacy and romance. In SLOW, the modern rules of romance are holistically shown like never before. When Dovydas steps into Elena’s dance class to provide sign language interpretation to her students, they spark an intense instant connection. When their connection becomes romantic, Dovydas reveals he is asexual, something Elena is unprepared for despite her strong attraction towards him. As the relationship progresses, they must navigate each other’s needs and the complications those needs create, working together to discover what intimacy looks like within the rules of their love. The film sensitively upends the expected gender dynamic in regards to sex on film and compassionately explores a complex sexual dynamic rarely represented on film. —C.F.
