Film Overview

Sarah is obsessed with how things work. Her whole life has been spent taking apart little machines, engines, and other technological marvels to figure out what makes them operate. But it's not until she gets pregnant that Sarah realizes she has no idea what really makes her tick. Even while waiting for her home pregnancy stick to reveal its diagnosis, Sarah is more preoccupied by the type of font the stick uses to display “Pregnant.” SMALL, BEAUTIFULLY MOVING PARTS is a charming, comic, and human look at a woman's journey to discover how she was made. Her concern for her lack of maternal enthusiasm leads her on an impromptu road trip to find her estranged mother. A yoga guru living off the grid, her mother has been avoiding contact with Sarah for years now, but Sarah must find her and figure out why she left her daughters. Masterfully directed by writers Annie J. Howell and Lisa Robinson, this film poignantly portrays what many expecting parents fear the most: “What if I become just like my own parents?” –T.W.
