Film Overview

Original Title: Soldaat Van Oranje
English Title: SOLDIER OF ORANGE

This exciting film was shot on the same Dutch locations as the American war epic “A Bridge Too Far” (1977) and borrows actors Peter Faber and Edward Fox from that film. The story focuses on the effects of World War II and the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands on six university students. As they make their difficult decisions, their change from youthful optimism to grim determination is skillfully depicted amid rousing action scenes worthy of a Hollywood production. Peter Faber was the star of last year's Festival hit “Max Havelaar.” Director Verhoeven is an exuberant, stylish young filmmaker whose most recent success in America was “Keetje Tippel” (1975). Based on the films of the last few years, the cinema of the Netherlands is joining those of Germany and Spain as one of the leading innovators in feature film production. “A study of people under pressure and oppression.” – Boxoffice
