Film Overview

Original Title: Drzazgi
English Title: Splinters

The opening scenes – a bride fleeing from her wedding, a lone motorcyclist on the road, their collision – set the stage for the three acts that comprise SPLINTERS. Seemingly disparate stories emerge into overlapping narratives through the dramas of Bartek, Robert, and Marta. The first part, “Match,” features Robert who is a soccer fan and neighborhood know-it-all. He is knocking around town with his buddies, uncertain what will give his life meaning beyond puttering with his vintage motorcycle. Part two is “Veil,” introducing us to rich, spoiled, and beautiful Marta. She is preparing for her wedding – a somewhat arranged marriage to the son of her father's business partner. Marta craves something different for her life – greater meaning – yet she is uncertain as to how she can attain it. Lastly, is Bartek, introduced in part three, “Mirage.” Bartek is a recent graduate of university who wants to extend his studies. He's been invited to Boston for a fellowship but his girlfriend is pregnant and planning away his life. Responsibilities are pressing down. What's he to do? The narratives twine, spiral, and spin together, gathering speed, as each is looking for love, connection, and acceptance. (In Polish with subtitles) – C.C.P.
