About This Film
Film Overview
STAND/DOWN is a documentary that shifts the focus from those being served to those who quietly serve. Set inside a veteran Stand Down event, the film follows volunteers as they prepare meals, distribute supplies, coordinate services, and offer moments of genuine human connection to veterans in need.
Through candid interactions and behind-the-scenes access, the film reveals how small, often unseen acts of service can restore dignity, trust, and hope. Volunteers come from different backgrounds – some with personal ties to the military, others simply driven by compassion – but all are united by a shared commitment to showing up.
Rather than framing service as heroic spectacle, STAND/DOWN captures it as steady, deliberate work – listening, helping, and meeting people where they are. In doing so, the film explores how service continues beyond institutions and policies, living instead in the hands and hearts of those willing to give their time to others.
