Films from New Zealand are fast becoming more popular in the United States. In this expertly crafted story, it is the summer of 1932 and Kate Marshall has run away from her aunt and uncle. She's looking for her father who has lost his job in the Drpession and has left home to seek work in a city hundreds of miles away. On the road, she meets Patrick who is on the run from the plice, and the two become reluctant travelling companions. At first Patrick resents kate's kid-sister intrusion, but gradually a bond develops between the unlikely pair. With the help of sympathetic strangers, an exciting series of narrow escaptes keeps them one step ahead of the police unitl, it seems, their luck finally runs out. But does it?
