STEVIE is the poignant film biography of British poet-novelist Stevie Smith, author of “The Best Beast” and “Scorpion and Other Poems.” This intelligent and captivating story has an excellent cast featuring Glenda Jackson as Stevie and Mona Washbourne as her maiden aunt, with veteran performers Alec McCowen and Trevor Howard in supporting roles. Adapted to the screen by Hugh Whitemore from his stage play, STEVIE is an intense yet modest film. Glenda Jackson, an Academy Award winner for her performances in “Women in Love” (1969) and “A Touch of Class” (1973), was named Best Actress at the 1978 Montreal Film Festival for her portrayal of Stevie Smith.
