Film Overview

One of Poland's most revered and prolific film directors, Krzysztof Kieslowski, against the odds of a turbulent political climate, consistently created films which he felt, as an artist, should be made. As a student in Warsaw in the 1960s, Kielowski worked mainly in documentary film, but his own success in the genre made him turn to fictional film later in his career. His fictional films went on to win great acclaim across Europe. Making films through political persecution of the 1960s and 1970s and the Solidarity movement in the 1980s, Kieslowski never attempted to be overtly political, yet his works remain an accurate document of Poland throughout those years. STILL ALIVE follows the director from his school days to his death in 1996 through interviews with his colleagues and friends, providing intimate insight into an artist and his craft. Interspersed with segments from his films and behind the scenes footage, the film illuminates a cinematic genius and the outstanding body of work for which he is responsible.
