Film Overview
SUMMER describes with great sensitivity a special father-son relationship. A recently divorced man takes his seven-year-old autistic child from a clinical institution to an Alpine resort with the hope of teaching the boy to speak. Although the father tries to break through the silent, closed world of his son, his constant approaches are met with indifference and a greater interest in a marble, a floorboard, or a radiator. When a woman from the outside world invades their isolation, the father discovers that his son's existence mirrors his own ability to communicate and to accept reality. This is a beautiful, pensive film about an illness and about the small victories and defeats in life.
