About This Film
Film Overview
According to director Nishikawa Miwa, dreams inspired her first two films, but a nightmare inspired her courtroom thriller SWAY. One year after his mother's death, chic Tokyo photographer Takeru halfheartedly returns to his small hometown for a memorial ceremony. His first stop is at the family gas station, where his older brother Minoru now works. The two could not be more different: humble, shy, and modestly dressed Minoru hardly compares to his hip, confident, and designer clad brother, especially when it comes to women. Despite Minoru's secret, undying love for Chieko, a childhood friend of the brothers, Takeru effortlessly wins her affections within hours of his arriva. The next morning, the three visit the nearby Hasumi Gorge. In the breathtaking wilderness, Takeru wanders across an unsteady suspension bridge to snap some photos, while Minuro and Chieko lag behind. As Takeru turns to his companions, he watches Chieko fall to her death in the vast canyon below. Days later, Minuro is arrested and Takeru, whose job is to capture important moments, is the only witness, and he can't remember exactly what he saw. (In Japanese with English subtitles) – E.J.B.
