Film Overview

Winner of numerous major festival prizes and the French Cesar, TANGOS' new cinematic style bursts forth in episodes of joyful singing and dancing by Argentinian exiles in Paris. Disenhearted, the group nostalgically recaptures the passion of Carlos Gardel's tangos in the staging of their ballet, a tanguedia, a cross between a tango and tragi-comedy. The contrast of the two cultures is imaginatively and intelligently explored, blending fantasy with truth amid touches of surrealistic symbolism. Virtuoso camerawork presents Paris as it's never been seen before, enchanted by the rhythm and sensuality incarnated in the tango. An absolute delight, performed by leading actors from both countries.
