Film Overview

TELL SPRING NOT TO COME THIS YEAR follows a group of young soldiers in the Afghan National Army in 2014, around the time NATO troops began to withdraw from the region. With the burden now lying solely on their shoulders, these courageous young men feel the pressure to succeed. Although the realization of doing it alone certainly weighs on them heavily, they are happy to see outside forces leave. They initially welcomed the assistance, but over time resented the attitudes of their allies, witnessing their arrogance and mistreatment of their citizens on many occasions. The images we often see of war don’t tell the whole story. This impactful documentary tackles it from an extremely personal perspective and gives us a chance to hear it from the Afghans themselves. It presents an all-encompassing view of their experiences, from the boredom of downtime, to the terrifying reality of battle. For Americans, the war in Afghanistan has somewhat faded. But as the film clearly demonstrates, the fight against the Taliban is still very much alive for these soldiers and the people they bravely protect. (In Dari with subtitles) –E.F.
