“Let us not waste our time in idle discourse!” When an out-of-work actor (Antonio Albanese) takes a job running a prison theater in this Italian dramedy, his staging of Waiting for Godot gives the troupe of convicts a chance to go on the road with Beckett’s masterwork. Inspired by a true story.Down-on-his-luck actor Antonio faces few career prospects and accepts a job leading a newly funded theatre workshop in a prison. After his initial disappointment with the workshop’s few participants and their lack of experience, he is inspired to mount a production of “Waiting for Godot” with the inmates outside of the prison. Despite clashes with the prison administration and each of the men’s personal demons, their production is a success that sends Antonio and his ensemble on an unlikely tour, resulting in a most unique defiance of the prison system.
