The Anarchists

Corporal Jean Albertini, who was orphaned as a child, is chosen to infiltrate a band of anarchists in Paris 1899. He jumps at the chance because, for him, it’s an opportunity to move up the ranks. As he delivers incriminating evidence, his superior, Gaspard, lauds him. But Gaspard needs more to make a move. Jean delves deeper into the shadow world of the anarchists and finds he is developing feelings for, and a connection to, those he is supposed to be turning in, especially the beautiful Judith. Could these feelings be stemming from his need for family, or is it blind love? Time is running out for Gaspard to try to stop the anarchist movement, Jean is becoming less open with his findings, and the leader of the anarchist group is questioning Jean’s loyalty, which puts everyone involved in danger. Juxtaposing turn of the century costuming with contemporary language and music, director Elie Wajeman creates a world in THE ANARCHISTS that connects French history to today. –B.G.
