Film Overview

Original Title: Kunsten å tenke negativt
English Title: The Art of Negative Thinking

This is the story of a self-help weekend gone crazy! Geirr and Ingvild are struggling in their relationship after an accident has left Geirr paralyzed and impotent. He spends his days watching war movies and listening to Johnny Cash. She spends her days repeatedly trying to reach out to him with no response. Thinking it will help their situation, Ingvild invites a “positive thinking” therapy group to the house for a weekend intervention. Geirr doesn't want to think positively. But is therapy ridiculous or exactly what he needs? Tori, the therapist– equal parts cheerleader and drill sergeant– lures Geirr from his room to join the group. And she gets way more than she bargained for. Veneers start to crack, niceties are dropped, and the tables are turned. As Tori is driven from the house in a therapy coup, real progress finally occurs. Geirr forces everyone through a tunnel of desperation, anguish, and hopelessness before the day dawns and they once again catch sight of light, if only as a faint glimmer of hope. Members of the group come to startling realizations about who they are and what they could be, realizing that THE ART OF NEGATIVE THINKING might not be the answer.
