Film Overview
When a fugitive alien (Joe Morton)-indistinguishable from a black human apart from his three-toed feet-crashes his space ship in the waters surrounding Manhattan, he seeks refuge in a Harlem bar. Confused by his surroundings and unable to speak, the nameless alien is dubbed “Brother” by the other patrons. Despite a slew of awkward misunderstandings, his agreeable silence charms those around him. Soon, he finds himself fighting crimes and fixing things with his superhuman powers. But black-clad alien bounty hunters are on his tail, set to bring him home. John Sayles blends science fiction and comedy to amusing effect in THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET, a unique satire on American society.
