About This Film
Film Overview
After being nominated for an Oscar® for producing Michael Moore's “Sicko,” filmmaker Meghan O'Hara was diagnosed with cancer. While conducting cancer research, neuroscientist David Servan-Schreiber was diagnosed with brain cancer. Wait, don't turn the page. This is not a depressing film about decay and death. Quite the opposite. Meghan met David through his research into the lifestyle choices that cause cancer and the tools we all have to prevent it. She began documenting his confrontations with the twin demons that make us a cancer-prone culture. First is a consumer culture that aims to addict people to unhealthy products and choices. Second is a medical culture based on cost efficiency and profitable results instead of prevention. Using humor, honesty, and an unflinching view at the ways in which we are all complicit in the cancer culture, THE C WORD is an empowering and hopeful look at an issue many of us will likely face. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, it removes a lot of fear from a topic we ignore at our own peril. –C.R.
