Film Overview

Original Title: LES CONVOYEURS ATTENDENT
English Title: THE CARRIERS ARE WAITING

In a drab Belgian town where nothing much happens, Roger Closset makes a living photographing that nothing much. With his little daughter often in tow, he snaps and sells sensationalistic, sometimes contrived or faked news shots to a tabloid paper, “The Daily Hope.” It offers little career satisfaction to the husband and father, who searches wildly for any sort of distraction from his monotonous travails. One day he finds it. All Roger's ethics-bending, event-staging skills come in handy when a merchant's association offers a shiny new car to any local who can put the district on the map by setting a new world's record. Pushed forward, unwillingly, to meet the challenge: Roger's teenage son Michel, coerced by his papa to become the first person in history to open and close a door more than 40,000 times in 24 hours. Don't knock Beno?t Mariage's a-door-ably absurd comedy. Filmed in a monochrome key, it's a slam in the face of bourgeois values, a rap on the way some knobheads hinge everything on locking up fame and fortune, and a mindful tap that some exits swing both ways. (In French with English subtitles.)
