Film Overview

The “clowns” are wandering creatures of the never-ending night in Montparnasse. In one of the most entertaining and unusual films in the Festival, we are taken on a dizzying voyage on a landlocked Ship of Fools, encountering madmen, killers and philosophers among the habitues of the bistros, the bars and the streets. The baroque tragi-comedy is part Marx Brothers, part Neitzche, a melange of Jewish humor, gallows humor, angst, existentialism, metaphysics and wild love all rolled up in a sort of Brechtian world. The many bizarre characters include a filmmaker out to change the world,; a mysterious, dreamy girl almost destroyed by her experiences with men; and a psychoanalystwhose couch is in a moving delivery van — he's driving!
