About This Film
Film Overview
Imagine if veddy British humorist P.G. Wodehouse had been P.U.G. Doghouse instead and you've got THE DUKE by the scruff of the neck, eh wot?! When animal-loving Duke Edward Albert Cavendish falls ill after a smashingly good fox hunt (the fox, as always, is given a snack and let go uninjured), the old aristocrat changes his will to bequeath the royal title, mansion, jewels, and lands to Hubert, the Ruffshire estate's ever-faithful hound. That's not cricket to Cecil, a greedy nephew, and Cecil's scheming wife Shamela. They try every trick they can conceive to keep canine Hubert from being crowned Ninth Duke of Dingwall. An ill-timed visit from the Queen, a gold-digging French poodle named Coquette, and the dognapping of Hubert's true love, the commoner Bassett Daisy, all figure in their evil plans, but Hubert's got some friends and allies of his own. Plus he's a great deal smarter than the villains, and a tip of the bowler-hat here to trainer Debra J. Coe and canine thespians Crocket, Simon, and Copper for pulling off some of the wildest animal stunts you have ever seen. And throw a bone to a pedigreed human cast of favorite character performers as well. This absolutely fab burlesque of mad Englishmen and dogs fetches a jolly good time for all ages. Unleash the laughs!
