Film Overview

What was once a nation of farmers is now a population dependent on genetically modified food from giant corporations. Now only 2% of Americans actually farm the land and, according to this sobering documentary, they are under attack from companies like Monsanto. Did you know seeds are patented, and therefore owned by the corporations that hold the patent? So if by chance of wind, passing truck, or seeds stuck to boots creates a patch of plants patented by Monsanto (and others), the farmer or gardener can be sued? There are startling revelations in this by-the-book documentary ? about the farmers who just pay fines, and the sticklers who ?cause trouble? by not. The film also investigates the health, technological and political issues surrounding genetically modified organisms (GMOs). But there is a small, tough movement to counter these practices and bring food back into focus as something that?s part of nature, and not produced in a lab. Food for thought: the same people who own the insecticide own the seed.
