Film Overview
In an unnamed country in Europe, tumultuous student uprisings have forced the hated Minister of the Interior, Joel Birkman, to sentence one student to death and close the universities. An assassination plot has been rumored, so Birkman and his family take refuge from the rising storm at their country estate and hire a young man, Jacob, as secretary and bodyguard. Jacob finds real affection for the first time in his life among the Birkmans, and is especially charmed by their lovely daughter. But the students are counting on him to carry out their deadly mission. Suzanne Osten, director of THE MOZART BROTHERS (12th CIFF 1988), brings a unique visual and structural style to this exceptional film.
