The story of the complicated relationship that evolves between a pregnant woman and the man who hit her with his car, THE HIGH COST OF LIVING is an emotional film starring Zach Braff. When Nathalie loses her baby as a result of the hit and run, her world begins to unravel and she sinks into a deep depression. Constantly reminded of the life she was supposed to live as a mother, she carries the reality of the stillborn baby with her, unable to let go. She searches for someone to blame, lashing out at her emotionally numb, controlling husband who wants to move on with their lives. Meanwhile, Henry (the pill-dealing driver of the car, played by Zach Braff) suffers from the incredible guilt he feels over leaving a pregnant woman injured and alone on the street. He follows Nathalie, curious to find out how she's doing, and ultimately winds up having a genuine, candid conversation with her when he realizes she doesn't recognize him. Sharing an immediate human connection, the two grow even closer when Nathalie leaves her husband and ends up staying at Henry's. The deeper the relationship becomes, the more Henry struggles over whether or not he should confess.
