THE LAST BROADCAST

THE LAST BROADCAST is a smart whodunit about a filmmaker's attempt to understand why a young psychic, aiding the crew of a cable access TV program searching for the Jersey Devil, would viciously murder them. The question “Why did he do it?” quickly becomes “Did he do it?” as the viewer is inexorably pulled into an unfolding drama in which reality itself is called into question. Oh, and by the way, this film could possibly herald a new age in filmmaking. While any teen with a song in his heart can forma garage band and start cranking out the tunes, those with a film in their mind's eye often must wait years – or perhaps forever – before they can afford to make a film of sufficient quality for theatrical distribution. No more: with the advent of digital video, filmmakers can achieve broadcast quality at consumer prices. The $7,000 budget of “El Mariachi” (17th CIFF, 1993) was pure extravagance compared to the $900 budget of this film. Impossible, you say? It must look horrible, you think? Think again. THE LAST BROADCAST will be projected by the Power 5dv, a cutting-edge digital video projector made by Digital Projection, Inc., which provides stunning brightness and color reproduction.
