A film of second chances, THE MAGICIAN runs the gamut of emotions. Pushing 60, Tadeus is a street magician who produces inept magic tricks with his eccentric sidekick Felix. Their act never gets any better, but they get by and have each other. When Tadeus learns he has a terminal illness, he softens toward everyone, and re-traces his life path. He visits Raquel, the love of his life that he abandoned, and the son of his best friend who was killed in a car accident. He revitalizes his interest in photography and helps a young single mother in his apartment building. Meanwhile, he goes along with the goal of reaching Acapulco with Felix, while planning his greatest magic trick ever. But when Felix is swindled by drug dealers and a prostitute, Tadeus must hurry. Lots of vivid characters and street scenes keep this film hopping from sweet to sad to funny.
