THE MAN FROM MAJORCA

Blending humor and fast-paced action in THE MAN FROM MAJORCA, Swedish New Wave director Bo Widerberg (“Elvira Madigan”) also revives the taut suspense of his 1976 thriller, “The Man On the Roof.” Vice-squad detectives Jarnebring and Johansson discover a connecting link between a post office hold-up and what seem to be unrelated murders. Sneered at by the regular homicide police, Jarnebring and Johansson persist in their investigation, impeded by witnesses who keep changing their stories and/or getting bumped off. Corruption in high places is implicated as the Minister of Justice, his mistress and a Secret Service agent all have something to hide. The detectives find all the proof they need to close the case – but is proof all it takes?
