THE MATING GAME

Not all Greek comedy is as ancient as Aristophenes. This bubbly farce, known in its native tongue as “The Discreet Charm of the Male Sex,” was a smash hit with Hellenistic audiences, but viewers from Athens, Greece to Athens, Ohio can appreciate the ups and downs, the fates and furies of its modern heroines ? three cosmopolitan sisters hungry for the right Mr. Right. Emily is a chic but intimidating businesswoman, for whom any man who isn't too weak is too strong, never perfectly suitable. Laura, a fitness assistant with no shortage of admirers at the gym, invests all her love and patience into sexually-unrewarding workouts as longtime mistress to an older, married man (who cares about her panties somewhat more than he does about her). Elena, the youngest, is an artist-activist and habitual boy-toy, so into parties and Hydra-headed multiple couplings that none of her boyfriends take her very seriously as a commitment. Each sister tries to make an ideal match for the others, but not one seems able to take care of herself, resulting in a Gordian Knot of tangled relationships. (In Greek with English subtitles.)
