The Mugger

As suave businessman, Ramos, enters a grade school on the premise of enrolling his child, tension builds with a feeling something is amiss. The realization soon occurs that there is no child. He pulls a gun and, oozing charm, robs the school in the most calculating manner. Soon you discover that you are in for an unanticipated adventure with Ramos, as both voyeur and co-conspirator. After the school robbery, he goes to a café for a cup of coffee. The waitress, thinking things are not as they appear to be, follows him as he leaves and continues his busy day of robberies. What unfolds is an emotionally tense and desperate journey. Shot with a hand-held camera, the viewer becomes an accomplice on a spree of mayhem…and Ramos' crumbling composure. He tries to redeem himself, but is redemption too far gone? The viewer continues, in real-time, to watch Ramos' travels of premeditated crime and may be left wondering, “What drives a person to be this cold and calculating?” (In Spanish with English subtitles) – CCP
